Article 97 General language arrangements

Summary What does Article 97 of the Anti-money laundering authority regulation (AMLAR) say?

This is a short housekeeping article dealing with the language arrangements that apply to the Authority.

It establishes that the general EU language rules under Council Regulation No 1 apply, while giving the Executive Board responsibility for setting the Authority's internal language arrangements, which must align with the language rules already established for direct supervision under Article 29.

It also designates the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union as the provider of translation and other linguistic services, with the exception of interpretation.

Important points:

  • Council Regulation No 1 (the EU's foundational language regulation) applies to the Authority.
  • The Executive Board is responsible for deciding the Authority's internal language arrangements, and these must be consistent with the direct supervision language arrangements under Article 29.
  • Translation and other linguistic services (excluding interpretation) must be sourced from the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union.
