Summary What does Article 3 of the ITS on FIU reporting to the EPPO say?

This article establishes the core procedural obligation for Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) when reporting to the EPPO.

It sets out both what FIUs must submit — their analytical results and any additional relevant information — and how they must submit it, namely by using the standardised reporting template defined in the Annex and doing so in a machine-readable format.

This article works in close conjunction with Article 4, which further governs how that template must be completed, and Article 5, which addresses the secure communication channel through which submissions must be made.

Important points:

  • FIUs are required to use the reporting template set out in the Annex, completing it in accordance with the instructions contained therein.
  • FIUs are required to submit the reporting template to the EPPO in a machine-readable format.
  • Note that under Article 7, this machine-readable format requirement does not apply until 10 July 2028, one year after the rest of the regulation becomes applicable.

Springlex's summary of the article is a reading aid, not a substitute for the legal text.
