Article 42 Application for notification
Summary What does Article 42 of the CRA regulation say?
This article sets out the application procedure that conformity assessment bodies must follow in order to be officially notified and authorised to carry out conformity assessments under the regulation.
It sits within the broader notified bodies framework and feeds directly into Article 43, which governs the actual designation and notification process.
The article covers what must be submitted, and what happens when formal accreditation is not available.
Important points:
- Conformity assessment bodies are required to submit an application for notification to the notifying authority of the Member State in which they are established.
- The application must include a description of the conformity assessment activities, procedures, and products for which the body claims competence, along with an accreditation certificate where applicable.
- Where no accreditation certificate can be provided, the conformity assessment body must instead supply all documentary evidence necessary for the notifying authority to verify and monitor its compliance with the requirements of Article 39.

Where the conformity assessment body concerned cannot provide an accreditation certificate, it shall provide the notifying authority with all the documentary evidence necessary for the verification, recognition and regular monitoring of its compliance with the requirements laid down in Article 39.
