Recital 34 Duration of incidents

The duration of an incident means an event compromising the availability, authenticity, integrity or confidentiality of stored, transmitted or processed data or of the services offered by, or accessible via, network and information systems; which impacts availability of a service should be measured from the disruption of the proper provision of such service until the time of recovery. Where a relevant entity means a natural or legal person created and recognised as such under the national law of its place of establishment, which may, acting under its own name, exercise rights and be subject to obligations; is unable to determine the moment when the disruption began, the duration of the incident means an event compromising the availability, authenticity, integrity or confidentiality of stored, transmitted or processed data or of the services offered by, or accessible via, network and information systems; should be measured from the moment the incident means an event compromising the availability, authenticity, integrity or confidentiality of stored, transmitted or processed data or of the services offered by, or accessible via, network and information systems; was detected, or from the moment when the incident means an event compromising the availability, authenticity, integrity or confidentiality of stored, transmitted or processed data or of the services offered by, or accessible via, network and information systems; was recorded in network or system logs or other data sources, whichever is earlier.
