Art. 14 Requests for support by market surveillance authorities | Scientific panel of independent experts | AI act

1. The AI Officemeans the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission; shall provide for practical means for market surveillance authoritiesmeans the national authority carrying out the activities and taking the measures pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2019/1020; to request assistance from the scientific panel for their market surveillance activities under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689.
1. Any request for support from the scientific panel shall clearly state the purpose of the requested assistance and shall only be made in relation to market surveillance activities under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 and substantiate the necessity and proportionality of requesting the assistance of the scientific panel.

The AI Officemeans the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission; shall evaluate the necessity and proportionality of the request for support, taking into account the available capacity of the scientific panel and the necessity of ensuring effective access to experts for all Member States.

Where the AI Officemeans the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission;, following the assessment referred to in paragraph 3, concludes that the request is necessary and proportionate, the Commission shall appoint a rapporteur and two contributors for the task in accordance with Article 7.

The AI Officemeans the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission; shall process the request within two weeks from the receipt of the full request. At any time before taking its decision, the AI Officemeans the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission; may require the requesting market surveillance authoritymeans the national authority carrying out the activities and taking the measures pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2019/1020; to provide additional information to substantiate the request. In this case the request shall not be considered complete until the additional information has been provided.
